Main Projects
While much of what I did at JPL is covered under a Non-Disclosure Agreement, like many of the regular employees my work was split between two foci, both in the OpsLab on the ProtoSpace project. ProtoSpace is an augmented reality software package, developed at JPL, for manipulating and working with CAD models of spacecraft. It was designed for use with the Microsoft Hololens.
Half of my time was working with the creative director on the eventual successor to ProtoSpace. I designed storyboards, a video animatic, and a large number of sketches for a new, highly adaptive CAD program to be used in the development of new spacecraft.
The other half of my time there was spent assisting the senior UX lead in preparing for, designing, and implementing a research protocol. Intended to find ProtoSpace's pain points and develop its strengths, this protocol was being implemented shortly before I left, and was part of the reason for my extended stay there.
Special Project
To fill time while projects and interns were ramping up, a friend and I were tasked with implementing a new way of working in ProtoSpace. Originally intended as a short-term project, our individual supervisors were impressed with our work. It became my friend's primary project while he was there, and I was called in regularly to help out with the user experience and demonstration portions of development.
Demonstrations
In addition to my regular work, I was also tasked with assisting the one of the project leads in demonstrating the ProtoSpace software to internal and external visitors to the Ops Lab. These customers ranged from interns and engineers to senators and external business partners.
ProtoSpace
While two years newer, this video is similar to the animatic that I assembled and provides an excellent visual introduction to ProtoSpace.
As an extra advantage, at least two video clips were taken by a Hololens I was wearing.
